“THE DROP OFF” # 1

The Drop Off will be a series of posts to my blog. Describing the work day as a messenger. Today is September 1 2011. I arrive in midtown from Jamaica, Queens where I live around 11:00am. Getting off the E train 7th Avenue stop. The sun was shining and I was feeling pretty good. A good sign that I am going to make some money today. Money meaning a commission of $100.00 for 6 to 7 hours work. My first pick up was at 130 West 25th street going 792 Columbus Avenue at 98th Street for the drop off. From midtown I took the f train to 23rd street. Got off at 23rd street and walk across street to bathroom in Starbucks at 24th street and 6th avenue. I ran into another messenger on bicycle that I have never saw before. He was also in line to used the bathroom. Coming out the bathroom I quickly walk over to 25th street for the pick up. The pick up was computer equipment. Once I got the pick. I walk over to 23rd and 7th avenue and got on 1 train uptown to 96th Street. The next pick up was from NYC Ballet at 62nd street and colombus avenue to drop off at 446 Broadway. Here I go back to 96th street station and caught 1 train downtown to 66th Street and Broadway. Got off at 66th street and went to NYC Ballet Stage Entrance for the pick up. Got the pick up and went back to 66th street station and caught 1 train downtown to 42nd Street Station and transfer to R train to Prince Street and Broadway. Got off at Prince Street and walk to drop off at 446 Broadway. From there I call dispatch for my next run. It was a pick up at 524 Broadway and droping off at 305 East 24th Street. This pick up was bulky and big could not fit in my messenger bag. From 524 Broadway I walk over to Spring Street and Lafayette to catch 6 train uptown to 23rd Street for the drop off. After that dispatch send me way uptown for COD for $64.50 (Cash On Delivery) for a pick up at 2854 Frederick Douglass Blvd at 152nd Street. So I walk about half mile from East 24th street to 5th Avenue and 23rd to catch R train to 42nd street. But first I needed to go to another Starbuck to used the restroom. At 42nd Street

I caught express 3 train uptown to 148 Lenox Terminal. Got off walk a few block to 152nd street for the pick up, which was letter envelope to drop off in Brooklyn at 45 Main Street.

From 152 street I walk back to 148th street Lenox Terminal and got on the 3 express train to 14th Street, where I transfer to F train to York Street in Brooklyn. Got off at York and walk to 45th Main Street for the drop off. I called Mobile Messenger Service dispatch from Brooklyn. Where I get a helper job to work with a driver and moving something that needs more than 1 messenger. I will meet the driver at 110 Christopher Street. I get back on the F train going back into Manhattan where I get off at West 4th Street and walk to Christopher. I meet the driver at the location where proceed to move a 50 pound glass out the apartment into the driver van. Once we loaded the glass in van, the customer got in the van and I took middle spot. I say spot because there was no seat between the driver on 1 seat and the customer on the other. The van was all white beat car where you can hear the muffler while the car was moving. The driver also ask the customer to where his seat belt because he could get fine for $150.00. Now this drop off was at 201 East 87th Street. After moving the glass into the customer high rise apartment. The customer gave us a $10.00 tip. That me and the driver split at $5.00 apiece. I am finish for the day.
